Accessible information about politics and voting

United Response has written three Easy Read booklets about politics and voting.

The booklets have been updated for the 2017 general election.

  1. How politics affects your life – this booklet explains how the law works, the basic rights of all people and how these things impact our lives on a daily basis.

  3. How politics works – this booklet explains how the UK is run and looks at the role of different politicians who work at a local, national or European level. It includes updated information on what the UK’s vote to leave the European Union means

  5. How to get involved in politics – this booklet explains the different ways people can get involved in politics, including information about joining a political party and campaigning. Most importantly, it explains the voting process in different elections and explains how to vote.

United Response has also produced a Supporter Booklet which provides more information on how to use the Easy Read resources. It provides information on how to help someone with a learning disability get involved in politics and voting. It covers topics including bias and mental capacity.
