Health visitors are experienced nurses who have had extra training. They can advise on child development and suggest ways of coping with practical problems of childcare. For example, it is possible to get a limited supply of nappies for some children with a learning isability over the age of two and a half years.
The health visitors are based in local health centres, child health clinics, and GP surgeries.
