Leeds Cancer Awareness Project
Leeds Cancer Awareness Project
In Leeds rates of cancer and heart disease in the population are higher than the rest of England.
Evidence shows that the earlier that cancer is diagnosed the easier it is to treat and the better the outcomes for the patient and their family.
Who we are
The Leeds Cancer Awareness team is Darren Meade and Megan Arundel, both of whom have experience of working with communities, health and social care and cancer.
What are we doing and how are we doing it?
The team work with local communities, talking to people in places such as shops, pubs and clubs, social events as well as talking to people in social groups.
The team are always trying to find volunteers to help them spread the message.
They also encourage people to take up screening appointments such as breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening.
They promote the use of the free open access chest x-ray service available in Leeds for the over 50s with a persistent cough.
The team also tell people about the early signs and symptoms of prostate cancer.
If you would like one of the team to come along and deliver a session to one of your groups then please get in touch using the contact details below.
They will be happy to discuss dates, times and the most effective way of getting the message across to your group members. For example using a quiz, presentation, games and informal discussions.
There is no fee and the team provide all the required resources.
They can also deliver information sessions for staff teams who will benefit from learning more about what signs and symptoms to look out for when working with services users.
