ABCD In Leeds – helping people make things happen in their local area
ABCD In Leeds is about people in an area working together to make good things happen. Local people know best what kinds of projects and groups will benefit them and other people in the area.
Good things happen when people share their skills, their interests, and their time. Places in the local area are also useful, like community centres or parks. But it is people that are most important.
There are organisations in lots of areas in Leeds that help with this work by linking local people. And they can give out small amounts of money to help people get things started – these are called Small Sparks grants. The grants help local people do things that improve health and wellbeing and the local area.
Here are just three examples of what grants could be used for:
- To have refreshments at a local event to start a social group
- To buy plants for people to improve a local community garden
- To buy art materials for people to start a local craft group

ABCD stands for Asset Based Community Development. ‘Assets’ are the things that a community has - especially the local people who want to work together.
