People in Action (Leeds) UK
People in Action is a charity based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, established in 1983 to support and improve the lives of learning disabled and autistic people.
We offer various services as an organisation:
- One-to-one support. We have a bespoke matching service, that matches support workers from our team to the person requesting support. We support around 100 people around Leeds go about their daily lives.
- Social Clubs. We run several member-led clubs for learning disabled and autistic people that run in local communities around Leeds, specifically on an evening when there are fewer services available, and loneliness is at its highest.
- Courses. We run several groups with a focus on learning and wellbeing. Some of the topics covered are art, cooking and accessing services. There is a group that goes out walking weekly, and another that gets together to hone their skills at playing pool.
- Healthy Lifestyle Programme. This is a programme that supports learning disabled and autistic people to manage their health, through understanding about healthy eating, exercise and accessing health services. It consists of a 14-week course, along with a peer-support group which meets weekly.
