Information about Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) recommendations for people with a learning disability.
A DNACPR recommendation is something that can be added to a person's medical record.
- DNACPR stands for 'do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)'.
- A DNACPR recommendation means that if a person has a heart attack or stops breathing suddenly then CPR is not likely to be appropriate. This would usually be because the person is already very ill.
- A DNACPR only says whether a person will receive CPR or not. It does not apply to other treatment.
- A DNACPR recommendation must take into account the wishes of the person.
